In November 2024, Pathways to Teach Canada, a joint initiative by WES and provincial regulators, was launched to streamline the credential and language assessments necessary for internationally trained teachers seeking certification in multiple provinces and territories.
📌 Single-Entry Assessment Hub
Teachers can now submit all documentation and language testing (including Ontario’s LCATP) through a unified portal. This covers areas including BC, Manitoba, New Brunswick, NL, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, PEI, and Saskatchewan. (Alberta, Yukon and Quebec require certifications via regional bodies.)
✅ Who is Eligible?
- Graduates of a recognized teacher education program
- Professionals in academic subjects like math, science, English
- Those not previously certified in Canada
🛠 Application Process
- Submit credential assessment and/or LCATP via Pathways portal.
- WES evaluates credentials, Pathways issues a report.
- Applicants forward results to provincial bodies for certification.
- Fee structure varies depending on services and jurisdictions.
🎓 Additional Certification Requirements
- Police checks, proof of good character, moral references
- Some provinces may require local familiarization courses or faith-based credentials for specific boards
🌟 Education Now an Express Entry Category
Starting 2025, IRCC added “Education” to category-based Express Entry draws. Eligible teachers with at least six months of related experience are now more likely to receive an Express Entry ITA—479 CRS cut-off was used in the first draw on May 1, 2025.
