What are the requirements for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship To Canada?

Under this program, an applicant in Canada can sponsor his Parents and Grandparents to Canada for becoming Permanent Residents of Canada. To do so, the applicant must meet some eligibility criteria and must also support his parents and grandparents financially for a fixed period of time.

Sponsor Eligibility Criteria for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship

  • Sponsor must be at least 18 years old
  • Sponsor must live in Canada
  • Sponsor must be either a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian.
  • Sponsor must have enough money to support his dependents.
    • Sponsor must have the following income according to the table below:

      The above table is for those sponsors who wish to sponsor in 2021. Here the income of 2021 is just Minimum Necessary income and not +30% due to Covid Pandemic.

    • The sponsor must calculate the family size accordingly:

      • Sponsor himself.
      • Sponsor’s spouse or common-law partner. A spouse a common-law partner can become co-signer with the sponsor to meet the income requirements.
      • Sponsor’s dependent children
      • Sponsor’s spouse’s or partner’s dependent children
      • Also, include any other person who has been sponsored by the Sponsor in the past, for whom the sponsor is still financially responsible.
      • Sponsor must also include the parents and grandparents who are to be sponsored and their dependants even if they are not coming to Canada, which include parents and grandparents dependent children, spouse, and separated spouse.
  • Sponsor must provide proof of income for last 3 consecutive years.
  • Sponsor must not be inadmissible to Canada.

Sponsorship Agreement

A sponsorship undertaking has to be given by the Sponsor which is a commitment by the sponsor that they shall be financially responsible for the sponsored family member from the time the family member becomes a permanent resident till the time as mentioned in the undertaking, and, also, shall be responsible for repayment of any social assistance, if, taken by the family member. A sponsor is financially responsible for a person according to the following table:

Super visa for for parents and grandparents

If someone is not eligible for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program to Canada, then the individual can also apply super visa for their parents or grandparents. Super visa is a multi-entry Visa valid for 10 years, which allows Parents and Grandparents to visit their children or grandchildren in Canada for up to 2 years at a time.
