What is Caregiver Program for Canada Immigration?
Caregiver program is best suited for caregivers who are interested in immigrating to Canada. The current Caregiver program was launched after Interim Pathway for Caregivers stream was closed in 2019. Currently following two immigration streams are run under Caregiver program.
Home Child Care Provider Pilot
The Home Child Care Provider Pilot Stream was opened to applications on June 18th, 2019. Home Child Care Provider Pilot is designed for applicants with experience as Home Child Care Providers under NOC 4411, and bring them to Canada on temporary work permits, with the ability to apply for permanent residence after gaining enough work experience.
Home Support Worker Pilot
The Home Support Worker Pilot Stream was opened to applications on June 18th, 2019. Home Support Worker Pilot Stream is designed for applicants with experience as Home Support Workers under NOC 4412, and bring them to Canada on temporary work permits, with the ability to apply for permanent residence after gaining enough work experience.
Home Child Care Provider Pilot
To qualify for Home Child Care Provider Pilot stream, following is the requirement:
Education
The applicant must provide evidence that they have either of the following completed items:
- Canadian one-year post-secondary (or higher) educational credential
- foreign educational credential and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report issued by an organization designated by IRCC.
Language Requirements
- Eligible candidates will meet Canadian Language Benchmark level 5.
Qualifying work
- 30 hours of paid work per week.
- Applicants must have required work experience as Home Child-Care Providers under NOC 4411.
- In-home care to children under 18, must be provided in applicant’s home, Employer home or the children home.
- It is to be noted that Foster parents can not claim any experience under the Home Child-Care Provider stream.
Qualifying Canadian work experience
Applicants without 24 months of experience
1. At the time of their application for permanent residence will receive an occupation-specific open work permit.
2.Within 36 months of the issuing of the occupation-specific open work permit, the applicant must demonstrate that they have obtained at least 24 months of authorized full-time work experience.
Applicants with 24 months of experience
1. Applicants will submit their proof of qualifying work experience upfront in their application for permanent residence.
* Households who hire in-home caregivers under this stream for children, do not require to pay application fee for LMIA, if their gross annual income is less than $150,000.
Home Support Worker Pilot
To qualify for Home Child Care Provider Pilot stream, following is the requirement:

- housekeepers and related occupations are not eligible under this.
