Understanding the Backlog

An application is considered part of the backlog if it exceeds IRCC’s published service standards. For instance, Express Entry applications are expected to be processed within six months, while family sponsorship applications have a 12-month standard. IRCC aims to process 80% of applications within these timeframes, acknowledging that some complex cases may require additional time.
