In May 2025, Prince Edward Island (PEI) announced an expansion to its list of designated employers under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), adding 20 new organizations. This update brings the total number of designated employers in PEI to 364, providing more opportunities for foreign nationals seeking permanent residency in Canada.

Employers Removed from the Designated List

Simultaneously, 14 employers have been removed from the designated list. It’s important for applicants to verify the current status of employers before proceeding with job applications.

Eligibility Criteria for AIP Applicants

To be eligible for the AIP, applicants must:

  • Have a job offer from a designated employer in an Atlantic province.
  • Obtain an endorsement of the job offer from the province.
  • Possess a minimum of a one-year post-secondary credential for NOC TEER 0 or 1 occupations, or a high school diploma for NOC TEER 2, 3, or 4 occupations.
  • Meet the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) requirements: CLB 5 for TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupations; CLB 4 for TEER 4 occupations.
  • Have at least one year of work experience or a two-year post-secondary credential obtained while studying within an Atlantic province.
  • Demonstrate sufficient settlement funds.

Application Process

Once eligibility is confirmed, applicants should:

  1. Secure a job offer from a designated employer.
  2. Obtain a provincial endorsement of the job offer.
  3. Develop a settlement plan.
  4. Apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency.

Applicants may also be eligible for a special two-year work permit while their permanent residency application is processed.
